No need to try and sugar coat it. Life on the planet can be pretty harsh. We are constantly bombarded by negativity. When we feed our senses and hence our minds with these vibrations- even unconsciously or unwilling - we participate in the cycle. We may engage in gossip, drive a bit aggressively, snap at our spouse or our children, or just feel, in the most simplest of terms, stressed. We process the negativity first in our minds, then our emotions and eventually it affects our physical health. This is the mind-body connection.
The first step is to recognize that the negativity is affecting you. These are indicators that you need to decharge: irritability, anger, feeling wired or hyperactive, headaches, head/neck pain, nausea, leg cramps, or you may also be experiencing unusual negative events in your life -flat tire, basement floods, loss of job, etc.
It is also necessary to decharge after an interaction when the attention was on you (holding a meeting, teaching a class), after giving healings, after high emotional events such as arguments, or even after helping another process their emotions or their negativity.
It is super easy and quick to decharge and there are 9 simple techniques that you can incorporate into your daily routine and rituals. It is not complicated and it will provide profound results.
1. Get Outside: Just being in nature is one of the most powerful ways to decharge. Be near trees and let the Earth support you. If you don't have time for taking a walk in the woods, just getting outside in the open air, in the most natural setting available to you, can be healing.
2. Take a Shower: Water is a wonderful decharging tool, and we can transform our daily rituals into a decharging opportunity when we shower or take a relaxing bath with the intention to decharge.
3. Earthing: Place your bare feet on the earth. Lay on the grass. Hold a black stone or leaves or flowers in your hand. Dig your hands in the soil as you garden.
4. Gaze at a Flame: Negativity can be powerfully decharged through the eyes while looking into a flame. You can simply light a candle and gaze at the flame for 3-5 mins. You can also attend a sacred fire ceremony at Madhukara.
5. Breathe: Set a timer and take 5-10 minutes to observe your breath. Slow your breath. Incorporate a prayer or mantra to repeat with each inhale and exhale.
6. The Sun: Spend time, even just 5 mins, at sunrise or sunset feeling the sun. Using a prayer, such as the Gayatri Mantra, can enhance this experience.
7. Prayer: Use of a personal mantra, japa (mantra repetition), reciting the names of the divine, repeating a prayer from your religious tradition, the Rosary, while “asking” to remove the negativity from your life.
8. Gratitude: Reflect on the bounty of your life and generate the emotion of deep gratitude to all the people, the connections, the moments that have brought you to where you are today. Grateful for the simple things - food, shelter, your health.
9. LOVE: The simplest, and yet most powerful, way to decharge is love. When experiencing high negativity, shift the narrative. Find a way to take the attention away from yourself and your own egoic thoughts. Be in love. Send love. Help someone in need, cuddle up on the couch with your kids and watch a comedy, call your Mom and tell her you love her. Love is the most powerful force to cut the negativity on the planet.
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love
Give love, give love, give love, give love?
'Cause love's such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves…
